Action Alert: Let City Council know it's time to build in Union Square

Somerville YIMBY

The Planning board is reviewing the first two buildings of the first lot to be redeveloped in Union Square, and comments are due TODAY.

This process has taken quite a long time - over ten years, if you count from the initial LOCUS process- and it's resulted in some major improvements over the initial proposal, notably more public space and better sight lines between the Union Square station and the heart of Union Square.

Is it perfect? No. But it's transit-oriented, it's got lots of open space, and it's got 90 units of badly-needed below-market affordable housing, not to mention all that tax-paying office and retail space, and all the good jobs that go into building something like this.

That's why, at the most recent planning board meeting, Somerville YIMBY steering committee member Aaron Weber spoke in favor, alongside advocates from affordable housing groups and local labor leaders.

We'd like you to speak in favor as well.

Obviously you should make your own decision. If you haven't seen it,
