Clarendon Hill Needs Your Help

The Clarendon Hill redevelopment project — rebuilding some badly degraded public housing and adding more mixed-income residences alongside it — has been in the works for years. Construction is underway on Phase 1, but with economic conditions changing, it’s going to need more help to get Phase 2 going.

The nonprofit builders at Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) and Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) are applying for an additional grant from the MA Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, and they need statements of community support for their application.

Send a quick email to Jon Springfield at POAH before February 15 saying you also support the project, and POAH can include it alongside others when they apply for funding. Your voice will be especially helpful if you live near Clarendon Hill!

Here’s a short model you can adapt:

I live at [ADDRESS] and I’m writing to support additional funding for the POAH project to rebuild affordable housing at Clarendon Hill in Somerville. This project will provide badly needed homes for some of Somerville’s most vulnerable residents, and it’s got a lot of support from neighbors like me. Please approve this application, and help POAH and SCC continue to bring badly-needed affordable housing to Somerville.
