Come see us Saturday 8/24 at the Union Square Farmers’ Market!

Plus: book club, displacement task force, and recommended reading

THIS WEEKEND! We’ll be hosting the community tent at the Union Square Farmers’ Market this Saturday, August 24, from 10 am to 2 pm, and hope to see you there! We’ll have some maps covering zoning ideas that we think could help spur housing construction citywide, along with handouts and other information.

Upcoming

Anti-Displacement Task Force Recordings: Somerville’s Anti-Displacement Task Force is looking for testimony from Somerville residents who have suffered or are at risk of displacement. If that sounds like you, sign up or email [email protected].

Parking Minimums at City Council: Many cities, including Somerville, require that new construction include excessive off-street parking, which raises costs and carbon emissions. City Council has already eliminated that requirement for construction near transit, and begins considering eliminating it citywide tonight. This proposal has the support of Carbon Free Somerville, and we’re fans at Somerville YIMBY as well. We’ll be tracking it closely as it moves forward — stay tuned for further news!

Book Club: The Somerville YIMBY fall book club selection will be Politics is for Power: How to Move Beyond Political Hobbyism, Take Action, and Make Real Change, by Tufts University professor Eitan Hersh. Exact date TBA. As always, if purchasing a copy of the book is a hardship for you, just reply to this message and we’ll get you one.
