Eviction Call to action
Action alert: Eviction relief bill stalled at the state house
Your Neighbors Need Your Help
The state eviction moratorium ends on Saturday the 17th.
Without coordinated action at the state level, we could be seeing a serious eviction crisis unfold in November. The good news is that there are things we can do to help.First, if you or someone you know is at risk of eviction, you can contact the Somerville Office of Housing Stability. (Check out Ward 2 Councilor JT Scott's slide deck for more details on these issues, plus several additional resources for help).Second, there's some excellent legislation, H.5018, the Housing Stability Guarantee, coming forward that could help provide rent relief to tenants and mortgage relief to homeowners and landlords, and it just needs a push from you.HousingGuarantee.org has a great tool to identify and call or email your legislators automatically. It just takes a moment, and it could help stop a tsunami of evictions putting families on the street just as the weather turns.
PS:
We'll have an update on Somerville's proposed Affordable Housing Overlay for you soon. It's shaping up really nicely and we think we can help make it even better.
