Upcoming Events in Somerville
News & Announcements
Back in 2017, the Sightline Institute released a video called "
," explaining why housing scarcity forces prices ever upwards, and how that hurts the most vulnerable among us. True to the title, it's a mechanism that's both simple and cruel: if there isn't enough to go around, the rich will take first and the poor will get shut out. If we want to stop that game, then we need more homes to go around.
Pull on that thread and everything else comes with it: While we're trying to build more housing, we need to support people who are suffering acutely from the shortage right now. To house more people in the same four square miles of Somerville, we'll need to store fewer cars. To get by without cars, we need to improve street safety and transit and let people work near where they live (and vice versa).
To that end, here are some upcoming events in Somerville where the city will be making decisions about homes, jobs, parking, and street safety. We encourage you to tune in and make your voice heard:
May 25, 6:00 pm:
June 1, 4:30 pm:
June 2, 6:00 pm:
discussing a proposed 6-story residential building on Broadway
June 2, 6:30 pm:

Lastly, there's a fun one: On June 13 at 6:00 pm,
. It's free for AHMA members, $15 for everyone else. We hope to see you there!
