Union Square Tonight, Harvard Webinar Friday, & more
News & Announcements
Next Phase of Union Square Meetings
As construction on the first two buildings in Union Square approaches completion (really!), it's time to think about the next project to begin work, which will take place on the land approximately from Dunkin' Donuts to Buk Kyung Restaurant. This is a new proposal from a new developer and the initial community meeting is tonight at 6:30. Sign up to join Ward 3 Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen and the developer here.
JCHS Webinar: Community Control or Controlling the Community?
The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS) has an excellent lecture series, and we'd like to recommend this week's presentation by Jacob Anbinder on "community control." The movement for local influence over development in the late 20th century had many benefits, but also created new problems for 21st century growth. Learn more at the webinar on Friday 9/30 at 12:15 pm.
Ward Meetings (f/k/a ResiStat)
After a pandemic hiatus, the city will resume hybrid Community Ward Meetings this fall. These updates, previously called ResiStat, include presentations from the mayor and city councilors about what's going on in the neighborhood, progress on key issues, and more. The first meeting is for Ward 5, on October 3. Check the schedule for your neighborhood meeting here.
Land Use & Planning Meeting
Some significant zoning revisions are coming up and could use your support. The mayor will be requesting rule changes to encourage adaptive reuse of existing buildings in residential districts, and a broader range of first-floor commercial uses in midrise districts. Find out more at the next joint Land Use & Planning meeting on October 6 at 6:30 pm.
