Hello friends!This week in Portland, OR, several members of Somerville YIMBY and other Massachusetts housing advocates are attending the YIMBYTown conference, along with pro-housing and transit folks from all over. April 12 (tonight!):

299 Broadway Meeting

. As site planning and testing continues, the developers have a few modifications to discuss with the community. This is a great opportunity to learn about the ongoing project plan and provide feedback on it.

April 14:

Winter Hill Civic Advisory Committee Site Walk

. Rather than a deliberative meeting, the Winter Hill Civic Advisory Committee will meet in-person for an outdoor visit to key locations, starting with the vacant Star Market at 299 Broadway.

April 21:

Planning Board Meeting

. A new building going up at Assembly Square wants to build less parking than is expected in the zoning. This is in line with SomerVision 2040 and other parking rules near transit, but hasn't been addressed in the Assembly Square Mixed-Use District rules, so a variance is required.

Regional Action Alert: Electrify Commuter Rail

Our friends at Transit Matters have been pushing for electrification of the MBTA Commuter Rail, a change that would improve service and reduce carbon emissions. They've put together a simulated trip planner at

so you can see why it would be an upgrade, and prepared a

letter template so you can send a quick note

to the T's Capital Improvement Plan team and let them know you want it.
