Two big changes on the table. Two quick ways you can help.

Item 1: Zoning Overhaul at the Planning Board

This Thursday at 6:00 pm, the planning board takes up the zoning overhaul once again. There's still time to nudge this further in the right direction, but most of all, City Council needs to know it's got support.If you can attend in person to show your support, please do. If you can't, send an email to [email protected] by 5:00 on Thursday and let them know you support the overhaul and that you want to see triple deckers by-right throughout the city, even in the Neighborhood Residence (NR) zones. Be sure to include your home address in the message so they know you're a Somerville voter.

Item 2: Union Square Community Benefits Approval

After extensive negotiations, the Union Square Neighborhood Council and developers US2 have come to an agreement about the benefits the developers will provide as part of their project. It's a pretty good deal and it's the result of exhaustive stakeholder engagement. Now it's got one last hurdle: neighbors voting to approve the deal.There will be 3 opportunities to vote:

  • Sunday September 22, 10:00 am at the Argenziano School, 290 Washington Street

  • Monday September 23, 7:00 pm at the Argenziano School, 290 Washington Street

  • Saturday September 28, all day at the Public Safety Building (police station), 220 Washington Street
